In Memory of Adam
In August this year, Adam McDowell passed away peacefully at his home in Northern Ireland following a diagnosis of Clear Cell Sarcoma in late 2023. At just 39 years old, Adam leaves behind his much-loved daughter, Poppy, his partner Bronagh, and his parents, Lesley and Freddie.
In Adam's memory, his family requested funeral donations to the Edward Showler Foundation, raising £3,029.07 to support vital research into Clear Cell Sarcoma. We are incredibly grateful to his friends and family for their donations.
Adam’s first love was football. A lifelong Liverpool fan, he was an enthusiastic member of the Coleraine Liverpool Supporters Club, meeting every fortnight and often traveling with friends to Anfield. The Club recently remembered Adam in a match programme, a 2 – 1 win over Chelsea, which we know would have made him smile.
The defining moment of Adam's life came in December 2012 with the birth of his daughter. Adam embraced fatherhood with characteristic ease. His family remember him sitting in his usual spot on the sofa, watching sport with her perched above his head with one hand.
Throughout his illness, Bronagh was his rock, caring and advocating for him with exceptional love and dedication. Her support was a source of strength for him, as was his own characteristic calmness. Adam’s family joked that he was "so laid back he was lying down." and even in the toughest of times he kept that calmness.
He showed such bravery, strength and consideration for those around him, always keeping on going and reassuring his friends and family he was that he was “just grand.” And to those who loved him, he always will be.
The outpouring of love since Adam’s passing is a tribute to his life. His friends and family will continue fundraising for sarcoma research. Bronagh, and friends and family - Browner, Beardy, McGowan, Shaggy, Hayes, Nate, Wee Man, Orlaith and Emily have already signed up for the Great North Run. We will be sharing updates on their progress, so watch this space to see how they get on.
Rest in peace Adam, you’ll never walk alone.
